About the building

The new service building on the hospital grounds in Malmö of 27,000 square meters has the task of servicing the entire hospital grounds. All deliveries of products, such as medicines, goods, laundry and waste, come by here. The building was inaugurated in 2023.

The building consists of six floors, two of which are underground, and houses premises for Medical Service (Medicinsk service), Regional Service (Regionservice) and Regional Properties (Regionfastigheter).

In the service building, there is a state-of-the-art automated laboratory which provides service around the clock. More than 6,000 samples arrive there every day for analysis. Of these, approximately 30 % are from the hospital area and the rest from health centres along with other hospitals and care providers. The samples are delivered in transport boxes that are unpacked and sorted by robots.

The building has a strategic location on the edge of the hospital area, directly connected to major transport routes. It helps to reduce transportation inside the hospital area. In order to minimize disturbance and noise to nearby environments, the cargo yard is also built-in. The hospital area's street environment is also improved by the fact that deliveries out to the area from the service building are made with the help of self-driving trucks driving in the culvert.
